OPDA promotes diplomatic literacy, strategic analysis, and principled advocacy to safeguard Eritrea’s sovereignty and global standing.
About Office of Political & Diplomatic Affairs (OPDA)
Embassy of the State of Eritrea | Washington, D.C.
The Office of Political and Diplomatic Affairs (OPDA) is the Embassy of the State of Eritrea’s dedicated unit for advancing Eritrea’s strategic interests in the United States. We serve as Eritrea’s primary bridge for building bilateral trust, shaping informed narratives, and fostering meaningful engagement across all levels of American society.
Our Vision
We envision a strong, enduring, and mutually respectful partnership between Eritrea and the United States, one grounded in accurate representation, strategic engagement, and shared interests.
Our Mission
Through proactive diplomacy and fact based communication, OPDA works to advance Eritrea’s strategic interests, strengthen bilateral partnerships, and effectively communicate Eritrea’s political vision and policies to U.S. government, institutions, and the general public.
What We Do
OPDA&’s work is organized around three core areas:
Bilateral Relations We engage U.S. government agencies, Congress, think tanks, universities, and civil society to build lasting diplomatic relationships and promote Eritrea’s political and economic opportunities. From one on one meeting with policymakers to cultural diplomacy events and annual seminars, we work every day to reduce hostility, increase awareness, and cultivate genuine friendship between our two nations.
Media Monitoring, Tracking & Strategic Communications We track U.S. based media, think tank publications, and social media platforms to ensure Eritrea is represented accurately and fair. Through our Publication, Newsletter, Social media YouTube channel, and Podcast, presence, we counter misinformation with credible, fact-based communication and bring Eritrea’s story directly to the American public.
Strategic Research & Publishing We produce policy briefs, research reports, case studies, and opinion pieces that inform Eritrea’s diplomatic decisions and contribute to informed public discourse. In collaboration with academics, policy experts, and subject matter specialists, we publish research that elevates Eritrea’s voice in U.S. and international policy conversations.
Why It Matters
Eritrea is a young, resilient nation with a proud history, a strategic location, and a compelling story that deserves to be told accurately. Misrepresentation, misinformation, and the absence of strong diplomatic channels have too often defined the narrative. OPDA exists to change that trend by building real relationships, producing credible research, and ensuring that Eritrea’s voice is heard clearly and respectfully in the halls of global power and in the broader public sphere.
